Window 2's Two Towers 'Call' to Each Other for the First Time — a Brief Reopening Before Dawn on the 23rd

According to the Dimensional Survey Division, Stable Window 2, "the Sea of Mechanisms," opened for 19 minutes starting at 3:41 a.m. on the 23rd — its first reopening in six days since the previously reported one on the 17th. The duration was nowhere near the previously reported record 53-hour opening, but two window keepers on the night shift were in the observation room and recorded the entire event. The two tower-like structures first confirmed on the 17th were seen still standing side by side, unchanged.

What this opening newly captured was a low metallic sound alternating between the two towers. One of the night-shift window keepers said, "One tower would sound, and after a short pause the other would answer with something like the same tone. It repeated several times. It sounded like they were calling to each other, but that might just be how my own ears chose to process it." The Division has provisionally labeled the phenomenon "the calling," and plans to run acoustic analysis on the recording it kept. As previously reported, Window 2 has long shown a self-repairing swarm of machine structures, and periodic metallic sounds are nothing new there — but this is the first time two distinct sources have been observed alternating.

Speaking to this reporter, a Division official repeated, "There's a large gap between the fact that sounds alternated and the interpretation that it was communication. It's far too early to connect the two at this stage." Citing the fifth of the five principles — preserving what remains unexplained — the Division has stated it will not settle on a mechanism or meaning for this phenomenon either. "Whether the mechanism structure has anything like emotion or intent isn't a question today's observation technology can answer," the official said. "Our job is to keep saying we can't answer it."

Beyond the sound, no change was recorded in the height or shape of either tower from the previously reported state on the 17th. A faint band of light was also recorded traveling up the surface of one tower in time with the sound, and whether that repeats in future openings is now a point of focus. No window drift object was recovered this time.

A passage from the window keeper's logbook, which this reporter was permitted to view, read: "3:41, opening. 4:00, one calls. A pause, then the other. Four exchanges by 4:18. The tea in the cup trembled faintly each time it called." The Division commented, "This isn't the first time we've quoted a logbook passage in print, but the detail about the tea trembling is the kind of record that never shows up in a device's readout."

Saku Miyai, 38, owner of the previously reported private café Tomoshi Madosabo, said some regulars who come to watch Window 1 end up leaving deep in conversation about the Sea of Mechanisms instead. "We want this to be a place where people can talk about any window, not just ours." The café, which continues to stamp every item it sells as previously reported amid the counterfeit-goods issue, ran an ordinary business day on the 23rd with no particular disruption.

The Division plans to wait for future openings to check whether the acoustic pattern repeats. "We don't yet have the material to judge whether this is a one-time event or an ongoing property since the two towers appeared," it said — holding, as it has with Lineage 31, "the neighboring world," and the relationship between Window 5's "Sword Country" and Lineage 7, to its habit of refusing to rush a meaning onto what it sees.
