Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms': The Count of Eight Returns — Signs a New Pattern May Be Settling In

At stable Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms,' in Warehouse No. 4 of the bayside warehouse district, the counting pattern in the exchanged tower song — which broke for the first time late on the 26th — returned to counting up to eight during an opening that began late on the 28th, it was learned on the 29th. After five straight matches of the previously reported one-through-seven pattern, the single instance of counting to eight on the 26th could still be explained as a one-off disruption; with a second consecutive count to eight now on record, the Dimensional Survey Division has for the first time raised the possibility that the pattern has shifted to a new one. It again stopped short of calling it communication.

Window 4, 'the Giant Plains': A Young Giant Approaches the Window for the First Time

At stable Window 4, 'the Giant Plains,' on a hill in the city's north, an observation that had shown little change for weeks finally shifted on the night of the 27th. TDA's Dimensional Survey Division confirmed to this paper on the 28th that, for the first time, a creature believed to be a young giant — roughly a tenth the height of an adult — was seen approaching the window, escorted by small human-sized figures from the settlement, before stopping several dozen meters short. The division cautioned this was not a sign the creature intended to cross, but said it would strengthen continuous observation.

Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms': The Counting Song Breaks for the First Time — Eight Beats Instead of Seven

The 'counting song' exchanged between towers at Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms,' in Warehouse No. 4 of the bayside warehouse district, broke for the first time from the one-through-seven pattern it had held for five consecutive matches since September 30, instead counting up to eight before resetting to one, during an opening that began late on the 26th, it was learned on the 27th. The Dimensional Survey Division said that a broken pattern, in its own way, only underlines that a pattern existed, but once again stopped short of connecting the finding to any proof of intentional communication.

A Yuragi Opening Caught on Film for the First Time Ever — Off Wakasu, a Single Drifted Object Registered as Lineage 154

In the predawn hours of the 26th, a TDA Forecast Division patrol boat on routine rounds off Wakasu in Tokei Bay recorded roughly eleven seconds of a Yuragi opening and closing, clearly on camera. Non-stationary Yuragi events — one-time occurrences impossible to predict in time or place — have never before had their full opening-to-closing process captured on film. A single disc-shaped object that fell into the water immediately after the opening was analyzed by the Third Appraisal Center and found to match no known lineage; it was registered on the 26th as the provisional Lineage 154.

Fukagawa North Elementary's 'Shared Dream': Observation Questionnaires Finally Go Home With Students

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 25th that, as of the 24th, it has distributed through the school a questionnaire asking parents whether they will cooperate with the previously reported (16th) six-month 'simplified observation' of the fourteen fourth-graders who have reported sharing the same unfamiliar dream. Replies are due, on a voluntary basis, by early November, and the division stressed that families who decline face no disadvantage whatsoever.

Decoding Team Launches for Window 5's Sent Object — Hind Mathematicians, a Hellas Scholar, and a First-Generation Drifter Join In

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 24th that it has formally formed a decoding team, centered at the Third Appraisal Center, to study the object recovered from Window 5, 'the Sword Country,' previously reported on the 20th — a folded paper bearing a drawing and symbols. The unusual line-up brings together a mathematics team from the Hind Federation, a Hellas scholar of ancient texts, and first-generation Drifter Shio Kishiura, 74. For now, the division has offered only a preliminary finding — that the symbols show a degree of regularity in how they're arranged — while the meaning of the characters and the subject of the drawing both remain unresolved. The division again stressed, 'This isn't a place to rush toward an answer.'

First Rescheduled Visitors Finally Tour Window 1 — 'Knowing Even the King Didn't See It Helped'

Among the 32 visitors previously reported on the 21st as having their lottery tour of Window 1, 'the Lit City,' rescheduled due to King Kaie III of Rukai's visit, the first group of eight toured the window on the morning of the 24th. An approximately 18-minute opening occurred, and everyone saw the procession of lights. The group included the 61-year-old homemaker from the city's north previously quoted on the 21st, who said, 'Knowing that even the King didn't get to see it made me feel lucky to have seen it today.'

Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms': Five Matches in a Row — Its Record Used as Reference Elsewhere for the First Time

The 'song' exchanged between towers at Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms,' in Warehouse No. 4 of the bayside warehouse district, matched the previously reported one-through-seven counting pattern again during an opening in the small hours of the 21st, marking five consecutive matches since September 30, it was learned on the 23rd. It also emerged that this observation record was submitted as reference material at a closed meeting of the Robot Legislative Review Panel in the Diet — the first time an observation from the other side of a window has been carried directly into a debate over institutions on this one.

Window 1's Recorded Sound: First Analysis Finds a Short Repeating Pattern, Meaning Unknown

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division released its first analysis on the 22nd of the low sound recorded at Window 1, 'the Lit City,' previously reported on October 11th. The sound's intensity turns out to repeat in a short cycle of roughly 2.4 seconds, suggesting it is not random noise. But what the repetition means, and whether it corresponds to the previously reported procession of lights, both remain unknown. Technician Toru Yuzuki said, 'That there's a pattern, and that the pattern means something — those are two different claims.'

King Kaie III of Rukai Tours Window 1, 'the Lit City' — First-Ever Royal Visit to a Stable Window, No Opening Witnessed

King Kaie III of Rukai, 34, toured Window 1, 'the Lit City,' at the observation rig off Haneda on the morning of the 21st — the first-ever stable-window visit by a state guest, and, as far as diplomatic records show, the first time any head of state has visited a window at all. But during his roughly 45-minute visit, the window did not open, and the King was unable to see the still stone city on the other side of the viewing glass. Two hours earlier, however, an ordinary public tour saw a roughly 12-minute opening, and the 80 citizens chosen by lottery that morning watched a procession of lights.

Window 5, 'the Sword Country': A Small Tube From the Other Side — First Object Believed Sent on Purpose

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division said early on the 20th that during an opening of Window 5, 'the Sword Country,' staff directly observed a figure on the other side throw a small tube-shaped object toward the window; the tube crossed the boundary and fell inside the window room, where it was recovered. Unlike the previously reported tablet-raising behavior, this marks the first case believed to involve an object sent on purpose. Inside was a folded paper bearing a drawing and characters, though decoding has only just begun, and the division says it is in no hurry to assign meaning.

Window 5 'Sword Country': Record Number Raise Tablets Toward the Window, Opening Coincides With King Kaie III's Visit

The Dimensional Survey Division said on the night of the 19th that during an opening of Window 5, 'the Sword Country,' it observed market crowds on the other side raising tablets toward the window — and confirmed the largest number doing so simultaneously on record. The upgrade to 'signs of awareness,' previously reported as held back on the 15th, remains on hold, though one observer said, 'tonight's was the clearest we've seen yet.' This marks the first time the window's opening has overlapped with the period of King Kaie III's visit, running the 19th through the 22nd.

The Dimensional Survey Division, together with the Tokei Sword Bearers' Association and the Patrol Guild, conducted a joint inspection of the public viewing area and confirmed security arrangements on the 18th, ahead of King Kaie III of Rukai's previously reported Window 1 visit on the 21st. It was also decided that afternoon public tours will be suspended that day, since part of the viewing route will be used for the state visit.

Fukagawa North Elementary Briefing: No New Matches, but TDA Makes First-Ever Request for Ongoing Observation of Pupils

Fukagawa North Elementary School held a briefing for parents on the evening of the 16th over the previously reported "shared dream" case. The TDA Dimensional Survey Division's technician Toru Yuzuki, 31, explained that additional interviews and drawings from the fourteen pupils had produced no further matches with Window 1's observation records, but the division asked, subject to school and parental consent, for the pupils' voluntary cooperation over roughly the next six months in a simple log of whether they dream again. It is the first time the division has formally requested this kind of cooperation from members of the public — let alone children.

Window 3 'Slime Marsh': Second Signal Test Also Answered — TDA Upgrades It to 'Signs of Awareness'

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 16th that during a second deliberate signal test on the night of the 15th at Window 3, 'the Slime Marsh,' the creature known as 'the Watcher' (88-C) again answered with a matching color change — this time to a differently patterned signal than the one used on the 13th. The division has upgraded Window 3 to the 'signs of awareness' tier, alongside Window 5, 'the Sword Country,' while maintaining that this does not prove two-way communication.

Window 5, 'the Sword Country': More People Raise Tags, as Treaty Confirms Observation Data Is Exempt

During a roughly 80-minute opening late on the 14th at Window 5, 'the Sword Country,' the number of people in the marketplace on the other side raising wooden tags toward the window had grown further since it was first confirmed on the 5th, the Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 15th. The same day's interim agreement on the Window Treaty, previously reported, was also confirmed to explicitly place scientific observation data from windows like this one outside the scope of the military-diversion ban.

Window 3's 'the Watcher' Responds to a Deliberate Signal — Survey Division Confirms a Match Three Times Running

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 14th that during an observation at Window 3, 'the Slime Marsh,' late on the night of the 13th, it sent its first-ever deliberate signal — flashing the observation room's lighting in a fixed rhythm three times — and the previously reported individual 'the Watcher' (officially numbered 88-C) changed its body color in nearly the same rhythm, three times in a row. Past 'weak correlations' were responses to unconscious movement on this side; this time the match followed an intentional signal, prompting the division to say for the first time that it is 'hard to call it coincidence.' It maintains its cautious position that this does not prove communication.

Fukagawa North Elementary Pupils Dreamed the Same Unknown City — Details Match Window 1's View

Fourteen pupils in a fourth-grade class at Fukagawa North Elementary School began reporting, from early this month, that they had dreamed the same unfamiliar city, and when their teacher compared the pictures they drew in art class, several details — the arrangement of stone steps and lanterns — matched. After the school raised the matter, the TDA's Dimensional Survey Division cross-checked the drawings against observation records from Window 1, 'the Lit City,' and announced on the 13th that one drawing matched a specific section of the window's view down to its details.

Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms': A Fourth Confirmation of the Echo Pattern — TDA: 'Highly Reproducible'

In an opening observed from late on the 11th into the predawn hours of the 12th at Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms,' the previously reported counting pattern — a toll that climbs from one to seven before resetting — was confirmed for a fourth consecutive time, following Sept. 30, Oct. 2, and Oct. 6. The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division went a step further, saying the pattern's reproducibility 'can fairly be called high,' while again declining to call it communication.

Window 1: A Second Light Procession, and a Mysterious Sound — 'One More Thing We Don't Understand'

In the predawn hours of the 11th, the previously reported 'light procession' at Window 1, 'the Lit City,' was observed again for the first time in four days. This time, the window room's recording equipment picked up, for the first time, a low sound that rose and fell in time with the procession's movement. The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division says analysis — including whether to even call it a sound — is only just beginning, and stops short of speculating on the phenomenon's nature.

Window 1, 'the Lit City': No Repeat of the Light Procession Since the 7th — Inquiries Pile Up at the Window Café

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division told this paper on the 10th that it had checked openings through the 9th and found no repeat of the previously reported 'light procession' (Oct. 7) in the three openings since. Meanwhile, the window-side café 'Toshimado-Sabo' off Haneda has seen a run of inquiries from visitors who say they read about the procession, a sign of rising interest ahead of November's general-viewing lottery.

Window 3, 'the Slime Marsh': Color-Change Correlation Reinforced Again — 'the Watcher' Stays Back From the Boundary

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division told this paper on the 9th that an opening of Window 3, 'the Slime Marsh,' lasting roughly 95 minutes on the 8th, again showed the previously reported weak correlation between color changes in 'the Watcher' — the individual, officially numbered 88-C, that repeatedly appears before the window — and lighting and movement on the observation-room side. No approach to the boundary glass has been confirmed since the closest-ever approach on September 18, and the division maintains that recent observations fall 'within the usual range.'

Window 1 'the Lit City' Shows Its First Lantern-Like Procession of Lights; Window Café and Viewing Lottery Heat Up Further

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 8th that during the previous night's opening of Window 1, 'the Lit City' (Lineage 7) off Haneda, observers recorded, for the first time, a festival-like procession of countless lights moving together along a city street. Since the window entered service in March 2024, people on the other side have repeatedly been seen using 'ritual' tablets to summon light and water, but this is the first time so many lights have been seen moving together in one direction.

TDA Sends Survey Team to Brasilia for Window 6 Candidate Site, Eyeing a Sixth Stable Window by Next Spring

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 7th that it had dispatched a field survey team, including three technicians, to a candidate recurring-Yuragi site in the Brasilian forest. As previously reported, local authorities there have already confirmed a recurring Yuragi at the site, but whether a permanent observation rig equivalent to Hinokuni's own stable windows can be installed will be assessed for the first time during this survey. If realized, it would become the world's sixth stable window, marking a milestone that ends Hinokuni's exclusive hold on the technology.

Window 2's 'Sea of Mechanisms': Third Observation Confirms the 1-to-7 Loop, Cited in Robot Law Debate

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 6th that a third observation of the metallic 'calling' sound at Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms' (Lineage 19), again confirmed the previously reported pattern of counting up from one to seven before looping back to one. Having been unable to rule out coincidence after two consecutive observations, the division revised its position, now saying the regularity can be called established. The finding was cited in passing at a Robot Legislative Council debate ahead of its first public hearing in mid-October.

Window 5's Market Crowd Raises Tags Toward the Opening — Survey Division Admits, for the First Time, 'Signs They're Aware of Us'

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 5th that during three openings of Window 5, 'the Sword Country,' on September 27, September 30, and October 3, it had repeatedly observed people in a marketplace visible through the window raising small wooden tag-like objects toward the opening. The division revised, for the first time, its longstanding position that there was no evidence the other side was aware of this side, saying the accumulated observations now warrant calling it a sign of awareness — while still stopping short of calling it communication.

Window 2's 'Calling Exchange' Follows a Counting-Like Pattern, Survey Division Says

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 3rd that, after installing multiple microphones in the window room, two further observations of Window 2's 'calling exchange' showed the two tower-like structures producing bursts of sound that rise 1, 2, 3 and so on before resetting to 1 — the division's first official use of the phrase 'as if counting,' though it again stopped short of calling the behavior communication.

Window 5 Voice Recording Partly Released — 'It Sounds a Little Like the Shore Lullaby,' Says Ushio Kishiura

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division released part of the raw, pre-analysis recording of the 'voice-like sound' captured before dawn on September 30 at Window 5, 'the Sword Country,' to reporters on the 2nd. Ushio Kishiura, 74, who transcribed 'the Shore Lullaby,' said after listening that it 'sounds a little like the lullaby's phrasing,' though she stopped short of any firm claim. The division maintains there is nothing to confirm it as a human voice.

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division made part of the voice-like recording from Window 5, 'the Sword Country,' public at a press briefing on the 1st. Ushio Kishiura, 74, a first-generation Drifter who attended, testified that 'the melody feels similar to our Shore Lullaby.' Tane Kishitani, 101, who was played the same recording, reacted the same way. The division maintains its cautious position that there is nothing to confirm the resemblance.

Window 2's 'Calling Exchange': Interval Shortens for a Second Straight Time — Acoustic Team 'Not Ready to Call It a Pattern'

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division on the 29th released interim acoustic findings on the 'calling exchange' observed at Window 2, 'the Sea of Mechanisms' — first seen Sept. 23 and observed again the night of the 27th into the 28th, both previously reported. The interval between the metallic tones shortened by roughly 20 percent on average from the first observation to the second, and a simple extrapolation would suggest a further shortening on a third occasion — but the acoustic team is holding firm that 'two data points don't make a pattern.' The towers show no change in height or shape, and the division again stopped short of calling it 'communication.'

Window 2's 'Calling Exchange' Observed Again — Faster Tempo Than Before

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 28th that it again observed the 'calling exchange,' first reported on Sept. 23, during Window 2's opening onto 'the Sea of Mechanisms' (Lineage 19) from late on the 27th into the early hours of the 28th. The interval between the metallic tones the two tower-like structures exchange was recorded at a somewhat faster tempo than last time. The division again avoided calling it 'communication,' and what the change in tempo means remains an open, unresolved question.

Window 5's Two Recovered Items Come Back 'Unidentified' — Clasp and Braided Cord Still Unclassified

The No. 3 Appraisal Center's window team announced appraisal results on the 27th for two window-drift items recovered from Window 5, 'the Sword Country' — a clasp found on September 7 and a tassel-like braided cord found on September 21. Both came back 'unidentified,' with material and method matching no known lineage record. Despite repeated observations of resemblance to Lineage 7's 'ritual tablets,' the appraisal again maintained that 'closeness in shape is all that can be said.'

TDA Names Seven to New External Advisory Panel on the Windows — Kajiura of Wan'yo University to Chair

The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division announced on the 25th that seven members have been provisionally named to the external advisory panel it had previously said would launch before year's end. Etsuko Kajiura, 58, a Wan'yo University professor specializing in information and bioethics, will chair the panel. Also among the members is Ikuko Tatewaki, the constitutional law professor at Tokei Law University who has appeared in these pages before. The agenda lines up a season's worth of unresolved events: the split and 'call-and-response' of Window 2's tower structures, Window 3's individual 'the Watcher' approaching the boundary glass, the migration of Window 4's settlement, and the resemblance between Window 5's drift finds and Lineage 7. Stable Window 3, 'the Slime Marsh' (Lineage 88), in the Inagi valley of West Tama, opened for about 70 minutes on the afternoon of the 24th. Six days after the previously reported incident on the night of the 18th, when the individual known as 'the Sentinel' (official number 88-C) approached closer to the boundary glass than ever before, its body briefly turning colorless and then flickering, the individual was again observed today but kept its usual distance from the glass. A privately run café called Tomoshimado Sabo, or 'the Lit-Window Tea House,' opened on the 18th next to the observation rig for Stable Window 1, 'the Lit City,' off Haneda. As previously reported, the general viewing lottery can run more than twenty to one in some months; the café was conceived as a place for those who missed out, or families waiting their turn, to sit and watch the sea and the rig's lights instead of the window itself. The tower-like structure that had stood motionless in its altered form since the previously reported record 53-hour opening has changed further: this observation found what had been one tower now standing as two. The Dimensional Survey Division said it cannot yet tell, from this observation alone, whether the structure grew or split.

For the first time, the metallic 'call-and-response' sound long associated with the site was recorded synchronizing across multiple swarms at once. The Dimensional Survey Division said on the 9th that it is analyzing the recordings, but the cause remains unknown.

Three Hours of Swords and a Procession: Window 5's 'Sword Country' Observed at Length for the First Time

At Stable Window 5, behind the Third Appraisal Center in Kameido, an opening lasted three hours and twenty minutes on the night of the 7th — the longest observation since the window entered service. In Lineage 52, provisionally named 'the Sword Country,' a market street along a stone wall and a procession of armored figures were confirmed, and the Center's window team recovered a small metal buckle found lying just past the glass.

Another skyline on the far side of the glass: Stable Window 1 and 'the Lit City' enter a third year — and this paper opens a Dimensional Survey section

Stable Window 1, mounted on an observation tower off Haneda, has entered its third year of service. When the window opens, the night skyline of a stone high-rise city — provisionally named 'the Lit City' — spreads out beyond the glass. The TDA's Dimensional Survey Division now manages five such windows. From today this paper opens a Dimensional Survey section to report, every day, what is known and what is not about the worlds on the far side.

Window 4: the giants move north — the morning the teacups slid three centimetres in the Oji window room

At Stable Window 4 on the Oji hill early on the 7th, eleven giants of Lineage 63 — 'the Giant Plains' — were observed moving north as a herd, the largest number since the window entered service. The tremor of their steps moved the teacups in the window room by three centimetres, and the keeper logged that too.
