Yume, On Location: Just Because a King Is Coming, Does That Mean You Get a Food Stall?

The fifth installment of 'Yume, On Location': Yume goes to cover a shopping street getting swept up in excitement over King Kaie III's upcoming visit, and ends up being told she was the one having the most fun.

When I heard King Kaie III was coming to Tokei starting the 19th, honestly my first thought was just "the streaming king is coming!" — but once I got to the scene, the shopping street was way more excited than I was. The flags with Rukai-ish colors, if you look closely, aren't quite the right shade, but apparently that's close enough, because they were plastered everywhere and it was kind of adorable.

At Shiomibashi shopping street, a food stall selling Rukai-style baked snacks just suddenly appeared. I asked the owner about it, and he said, "No deep meaning, honestly, just a festive mood." They tasted genuinely good. When I posted about it on stream, the comments filled up with "wait, does that count as diplomacy?" which was kind of funny.

I went there meaning to report on it, but before I knew it, I'd hit three different festive-mood stalls myself. When I got back and reported in at the newsroom, Shioiri-san immediately called it: "You were just food-crawling and calling it reporting, weren't you?" I couldn't deny it.

But then I heard about the security arrangements — sword bearers and patrol officers both standing watch, day and night. That made me pull back a little. Thinking about someone standing quietly the whole time while the rest of us hop from stall to stall in a festive mood made me think I should actually report properly. I'll try to be a little more serious next time. Probably.
